PSA is a K-12 chartered nonpublic school committed to providing a small, supportive learning environment where students are known, valued, and encouraged to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.Because each student has unique strengths and needs, our admissions process allows families and school staff to learn more about one another and thoughtfully determine whether PSA can provide an appropriate and successful educational experience.

 

Admissions Process

1. Submit an Application

Families interested in PSA must complete a student application. Applications may be submitted for the current school year or an upcoming school year.

 

2. Provide Student Records

PSA may request relevant educational records, including report cards, attendance records, transcripts, disciplinary records, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, evaluation reports, and other information needed to understand the student’s educational needs.

 

3. Records Review

School staff will review the information provided to learn about the student’s academic progress, attendance, educational history, strengths, and support needs. For high school applicants, transcripts and graduation credits will also be reviewed to determine whether the student can remain on track for graduation.

 

4. Family Conversation and Visit Day

Eligible applicants may be invited to meet with school staff and participate in a visit day. This provides the family and PSA with an opportunity to discuss the student’s needs, experience the school environment, ask questions, and determine whether PSA may be a good fit.

 

5. Enrollment Decision

Following the review and visit process, families will be notified of the school’s enrollment decision. Admission is based on available space, school records, and PSA’s ability to provide an appropriate educational program and necessary supports. 

 

Submission of an application or participation in a visit day does not guarantee enrollment.

 

Supporting Each Student

PSA serves students with a variety of academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and disability-related needs. Families are encouraged to provide complete and accurate information during the application process. This information helps PSA understand the student’s strengths and needs and determine whether the school has the programs, personnel, services, and resources necessary to support the student successfully.

 

The purpose of discussing a student’s needs is not to discourage families from applying. It is to promote honest communication and thoughtful educational decision-making between the family and the school.

 

Tuition and Scholarships

Portsmouth STEM Academy participates in Ohio’s EdChoice Scholarship Program. EdChoice scholarships are available to eligible K–12 students and may cover the full cost of tuition at PSA. Scholarship eligibility and award amounts are determined by the State of Ohio and may vary based on family income and other applicable criteria.

 

PSA also participates in the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program for eligible students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). School staff can assist families with understanding available scholarship options and completing the required documentation.
